Thinking Beyond Religion – A Call for Responsible Citizenship

Recently, I had the honour of addressing a group of enthusiastic young minds at an event organized by the Muslim Boarding of Kolhapur - a remarkable institution that has been serving society for over a century. What makes this organisation even more special is its origin. It was established by the visionary king, Chhatrapati Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur, a true pioneer of social reform in India. His foresight and commitment to equality continue to inspire generations.

It was a humbling experience to interact with the younger generation and discuss something that goes far beyond religion: our responsibility as citizens of one of the fastest developing nations in the world; India.

We live in a diverse nation, enriched by different cultures, traditions, and beliefs. Yet, in this diversity lies our greatest strength. The time has come for us to rise above religious boundaries and think of ourselves first as Indians; as noble citizens committed to the progress and unity of our great nation.

The Muslim Boarding of Kolhapur is a shining example of this spirit. Established over 100 years ago under the guidance of Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, this institution has consistently worked towards uplifting underprivileged sections of society. It has extended support not only to the needy but also shown compassion toward those who are often labelled as greedy; individuals who, due to systemic failures, have never experienced the dignity of a secure life. Their approach is inclusive, empowering backward communities through education, shelter, and guidance.

During my interaction, I emphasized that true patriotism is not in slogans or rituals; it lies in actions. Actions that contribute to building a just, fair, and progressive society. Whether it's casting your vote, respecting public spaces, paying taxes honestly, or helping someone get access to education or healthcare; every small act matters.

To the youth, I say: be curious, be kind, and be courageous. Our nation needs responsible thinkers, doers, and dreamers. Don't be swayed by divisive ideologies. Instead, draw strength from our Constitution, from our shared history, and from the timeless values of unity and compassion.

Let’s pledge to think beyond religion and act as proud, responsible citizens. The future of India lies in our hands - let’s shape it with wisdom, integrity, and love.
