Origami Makes Green Debut at Kirloskar Vasundhara Film Festival in Shivaji University

Kolhapur, May 2025 — The prestigious Kirloskar Vasundhara International Film Festival (KVIFF), renowned for its commitment to environmental awareness and sustainable living, witnessed a creative twist this year with the introduction of an Origami Awareness Workshop at Shivaji University.

The workshop was conducted by Mandar Vaidya, a passionate origami artist with over 38 years of experience, who introduced attendees to the meditative and eco-conscious world of paper folding. The session highlighted how origami—using nothing more than paper and focused intention—can communicate messages of sustainability, minimalism, and inner peace.

Participants, including university students, faculty, and festival-goers, learned to fold birds, flowers, and symbols of nature using recycled paper, aligning perfectly with the Vasundhara theme of “living in harmony with nature.” The origami crane, globally known as a symbol of peace and hope, was especially popular.

“Origami reflects the Vasundhara spirit—it’s simple, sustainable, and soulful,” said Mandar Vaidya. “It encourages mindfulness, reduces stress, and helps reconnect us with the beauty of nature using the most basic resource—paper.”

The session was met with enthusiastic participation and curiosity, with many requesting more workshops in future editions of the festival. Organizers acknowledged the value of such creative, low-impact activities that blend education, environment, and well-being.

With its promising debut, origami is now poised to become a regular feature in the festival’s future green initiatives.

Thanks yo the organisers of Kirloskar Vasundhara Film Festival for introducing Origami during the event.
